Böker Damast Black kitchen knives: traditional Japanese knives of German quality

With this Damast Black collection, Böker has introduced a stunning collection of kitchen knives. The knives have a traditional Japanese handle made from black multiplex. The dark colour of the handle looks great paired with the Damascus steel blade with a Japanese VG10 steel core. The shapes and the lack of the forged crop are common Japanese design features. Combine these stunning materials and style with German craftsmanship from Solingen and you end up with these amazing knives.

Features of the Böker Damast Black series

Böker Damast Black handle

The traditional Japanese handle is made from pakka wood with a black colour. Pakka wood is a laminate made of thin layers of wood impregnated with a strong synthetic resin. As a result, this material is very strong. Perfect for the handle of a knife. Thanks to the round shape of the handle, the knife feels great in hand.

Böker Damast Black blade

The stunning pattern of this wood looks great with the thin damasteel blade with a core made from Japanese VG10-steel. This is a stainless type of steel with a relatively high carbon content. This means that VG10 steel is a lot harder than most stainless types of steel. The result is that the edge of the knife is sharper than most European knives and it will retains its sharpness longer. The edge is razor-sharp, Japanese style. The knives from this collection weigh next to nothing. As such long-term use will be a great experience as well.

Maintaining the Böker Damast Black knives

If you properly maintain your new knives you can enjoy them for years! Like most kitchen knives, the knives from the Böker Damast Black collection are not dishwasher safe. If you put them in the dishwasher you will notice soon enough that the pakka wood will be affected. It is the result of a combination of the harsh detergent, the heat and the fact that the blades stay damp too long in the dishwasher. The dishwasher can damage the wooden handle and the blade can start to rust. It is best to wash and dry them by hand immediately after use. Keep the wood in optimal condition by regularly applying a coat of mineral oil to the handle.
