Diamond sharpening stone

A diamond sharpening stone is perfect when you want to sharpen your cutting tools. This is because you can remove a lot of material with it. Ideal for restoring the edge of your blade. Diamond is a very hard material, which has several advantages. Firstly, you can use a diamond sharpening stone to sharpen the hardest types of steel. This process is also quite fast. Unlike whetstones, a diamond sharpening stone will not wear down. That is why these stones have an extremely long lifespan.

How do I choose the best diamond sharpening stone?

Choosing the best diamond sharpening stone depends on the type of knife and how blunt it is. We recommend fine grains for maintenance and coarser grains for repair work.

Preparing for first use

Please note: diamond sharpening stones need to be 'pre-sharpened'. This means that the stone will seem coarser at first use than it actually is. After sharpening a few knives this effect will disappear, and the stone will reach its optimal level of effect. The stone is less suitable for polishing, simply because a diamond sharpening stone cannot be made with a finer grit. For this purpose, a leather strop is perfect.

Using a diamond sharpening stone

Simply applying light pressure is enough to sharpen on diamond sharpening stones. All you have to do is let the stone do the work for you. You can use a diamond sharpening stone when it is wet and when it is dry. The advantage of sharpening on a wet stone is that the stone is lubricated and that no sharpening residue is left behind. You should, however, remember that you need to use water and not oil. Oil can be inconvenient when sharpening and damage the surface when it isn’t properly cleaned. If you are using a dry diamond sharpening stone, we recommend that you often clean the surface of the stone. This will remove sharpening residues from previous use and make sure the stone stays in top condition.

Diamond sharpening stonesfor any sharpening job

We prefer not to refer to a solid "diamond stone", but rather to a diamond sharpening stone or a diamond-coated sharpening stone. The first would imply that the stone is made entirely of diamond, which would make it extremely valuable. A diamond-coated sharpening stone is often comprised of a sheet with tiny diamond particles. Because the material does not wear out, a relatively thin layer of approximately one millimetre thick is sufficient.

In our range we have sharpening stones in various shapes and sizes, from, amongst others, DMT, EZE-LAP, Lansky and of course Naniwa](/en/ct/naniwa-whetstones.htm). As such you will always find the right diamond sharpening product for your all your sharpening needs.
