Skerper Arkansas sharpening stone: features

Made of novaculite

Skerper Arkansas natural sharpening stones are made from novaculite. This mineral is mined in the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas, the only place in the world where novaculite can be found. Thanks to the special cryptocrystalline structure, these stones delicately remove material. The stone will retain its shape and effective sharpening function for a long time, without you having to lap or level the stone. This feature is what makes the Arkansas stones unique!

Skerper Arkansas sharpening stone: grit size

Skerper Arkansas natural sharpening stones are available in several varieties, sizes and grit sizes. The grit size of Arkansas stones is measured based on the hardness of the stone. The harder the stone, the finer the grit size. In terms of grain size the Soft Arkansas stone can be compared to an American 400-600 grit synthetic sharpening stone. After that you have the Hard Arkansas (800-1000 grit), Hard Black Arkansas (2000-3000 grit) and Surgical Black Arkansas (4000-6000 grit). The Translucent Arkansas stones are the finest stones, comparable to 8000-10,000 grit synthetic sharpening stones.
