This **Sakai Takayuki chef's knife 21 cm** from the 33-Layer VG10 Damascus Hammered WA collection can be used for almost any task in the kitchen. With the hard and sharp edge you can easily cut meat, fish and vegetables. But also finely chopping herbs, crushing pepper corns and peeling cloves of garlic is easy with this all-rounder. 

## Blade of the Sakai Takayuki chef's knife

The Japanese [Sakai Takayuki 33-Layer VG10 Damascus Hammered WA knives](/en/ct/sakai-takayuki-33-layer-damascus.htm) are enhanced with a core made from hard VG-10 steel. Because the steel is so hard, you can sharpen it razor-sharp. The steel, however, is as a result, quite fragile. That is why it is also enhanced with 33 layers of damascus steel for protection. The top of the blade is hammered. As such the knife looks unique but also has a practical function: it ensures no ingredients stick to the blade.

## Sakai Takayuki handle

The oriental character of the knife is emphasized by the choice of an octagonal handle made from Japanese zelkova wood. An octagonal handle is one of the characterizing types of Japanese handles. The handle ensures that the knife feels great in hand. The bolster, which takes care of the balance, is made from mahogany. It is highly resistant to cracks and therefore a sustainable material.
