The **Helle Nord 200670** is a stunning bushcraft knife. Suitable for practically any outdoor task. For example, food prep and gathering wood for the fire.

The handle is made from stunning birchwood. The handle fills the palm of your hand perfectly and feels very comfortable in hand. The blade is made from Sandvik 14C28N steel. The steel retains its sharpness well and is easy to sharpen. It is also corrosion-resistant. The knife is made with a full-tang construction, which means that the steel of the blade runs through the handle, making it very strong.

## Maintaining Helle knives

Both the handle and the blade need to be dried with a soft towel if they get wet. We also recommended occasionally adding wax or oil.

The sheath should occasionally be impregnated with a colourless agent (grease or wax) to make sure it stays supple. Dry the sheath carefully at room temperature if it gets wet.

All Helle knives are made and finished by hand. As such, each knife is a unique masterpiece because every pattern is different.

Braucht jemand ein Messer mit diesen Dimensionen?

Ich ganz sicher nicht. Trotzdem bin ich begeistert. 

Was mich von großen Messern abhält, ist die normalerweise schlechte Balance und Handhabung.  Das Nord dagegen ist perfekt ausbalanciert (exakt am Übergang von Griff und Klinge), der Griff ist für meine mittelgroßen Hände (Handschuhe Gr. 9) ideal, tatsächlich noch etwas besser als beim Nordlys.

Damit wird das Messer erstaunlich führig und leicht, zumal die relativ schmale Klinge und der tief angesetzte Schliff das Messer leicht und einfach in der Anwendung halten.

Bedauerlich finde ich bei Helle nach wie vor die sorglose Auswahl des Holzes für den Griff. Das soll Maserbirke sein? Wo ist denn die Maserung? Ich habe ein gutes Dutzend Helle-Messer und nur knapp die Hälfte davon hat schöne Griffe. Die Konkurrenz in Finnland und Schweden beweist, dass das besser geht.

Dennoch eine klare Empfehlung.

Favourite features: the curve at the end of the handle gives extra retention in your hand and allows you to chop with it as if it’s a much larger knife. The blade thickness makes it light enough to carry easily but still batons well, the steel choice is perfect for a hard use knife like this. I actually reprofiled the edge down to about 12 degrees per side and gave it a micro convex and it has had no edge problems even with hard use. Looks great and works amazingly for buchcraft.

Minor drawbacks: I’d like the handle to be a little thicker where it meets the blade because my hand gets slightly sore here when feathersticking and I’d like the sheath to be made of slightly thicker leather. Still, it’s one of my favourites and I haven’t come across a knife of this size and weight I like as much as this.
