The **Fox Bushman FX-609** is a large and robust outdoor knife, perfect for bushcraft and survival tasks. When you hold the Bushman you immediately know that this knife was made for the more demanding tasks. You can tell by the impressive blade thickness, and the matching weight. But also because of the interesting grind of the blade. From the flat part onwards there is a primary flat grind with, on top, a secondary flat grind which closely resembles a scandi grind, with, below, the actual V-edge. As such the edge is incredibly strong.

 The blade is made from is D2-steel. A type of tool steel that is incredibly tough and strong. Do, however, be careful with moisture and acids: D2 is not completely stainless. But you do get that toughness in return.

 The handle of the Fox Bushman is made from micarta. A composite material from linen and synthetic resin. Incredibly strong and it feels great in hand. Especially when wet it will offer you more grip because the textile fibres expand. Practical in outdoor conditions.

 Such an impressive knife deserves a good sheath, is what the producers at Fox should have thought. The sheath that comes with the Fox Bushman is made from luxurious American leather. The sheath is enhanced with two leather belt loops. There are also additional holes to make sure you can attach the belt loops in different ways for different carrying options.

Thought long and hard about this one. Probably bought it just so I wouldn't have to think about it anymore... Nobody needs a knife this size (or I don't, and I've been backpacking for three and a half decades).

And yet. Most large knives strike me as oversized toys, but not this one. It's a no nonsense, well thought out tool. The sheath is innovative and functional, the knife's balance point is on the first centimeter of blade, the handle is very, very comfortable. Canvas micarta is the only not entirely natural material I like on a handle.

Using D2 steel makes sense, given this thing is likely used for chopping and batoning, too. From this perspective, I would have preferred a convex grind to the scandi-with-microbevel solution here, but that would have raised the price.

Between this knife and a light quality hatchet, I'll choose the hatchet any day. And still this feels like a well designed tool, able to carve, slice, cut, chop and split. (And it makes a very nice addition to my collection :-))

Ho acquistato il coltello dopo aver visto molti video che lo recensivano come ottimo e perché cercavo un prodotto italiano in questa categoria. 
Ad un primo approccio il coltello m'è sembrano molto bello, robusto e abbastanza comodo. Provato su carta: molto affilato. Il fodero è ben fatto, forse un po' stretto per far passare al lama senza un attrito dell stessa che mi fa dubitare che potrebbe interferire con il filo della stessa. Tuttavia fodero solido e comodo da portare in due modi. L'impugnatura ha un buon gruppo ma penalizza la comodità soprattutto senza guanti, pur mantenendo una buona ergonomia. Purtroppo però andando oltre l'impressione finale non è stata all'altezza delle aspettative, anzi son rimasto abbastanza negativamente sorpreso: durante il primo approccio all'uso per provarlo su legno e con piccoli tagli precisi di punta ho notato che il bisello del coltello è parecchio asimmetrico proprio sulla  punta per cui la stessa é fuori centro, sarà un millimetro o meno, ma è un grosso difetto di fabbricazione su un coltello di questa fascia. Mi sarei aspettata una maggiore accuratezza nel controllo di qualità da parte di una ditta rinomata come la Fox. Un bisello finale asimmetrico in punta è davvero un grossolano errore nel processo di fabbricazione...Certo si può ovviare al difetto con un po' di lavoro di fino, ma non dovrebbe essere necessario su un coltello come questo!
