Looking for the perfect pans?

The deBuyer Mineral B Element Country pans are special and nicely priced pans. They are made of carbon steel, which is not stainless. This seems like a disadvantage, but it definitely is not! The pans are all solid and heavy and have no non-stick coating. The more you use the pan the more it forms a coating of itself. Because the pans has no non-stick coating, they can be used at very high temperatures. You can also feel free to use steel utensils without worrying about damaging the non-stick coating. The Mineral B Element pans with a thin layer of beeswax on the baking area. This protects the pan from corrosion. In addition, this helps to flavour the seasoning in the pan. The B Element deBuyer Mineral pans are suitable for all heat sources, including induction and the oven. These pans do need a special treatment, but when used properly they are a pleasure to work with.


## Seasoning a deBuyer pan


Before use, the pan must be seasoned. Please watch the product video to learn how this is done. You start by washing the pan. Use hot water and a brush to remove any residue left from the factory. Do NOT use soap! Dry the pan with some kitchen paper.


Pour about a millimeter of sunflower oil in the pan. Do not use olive oil, because it cannot handle the high temperature. Place the pan on high heat and let the oil burn. Pour the oil from the pan and dry it again with some kitchen paper. The pan will now be slightly darker on the inside, which is called patina. You should cherish this patina! It is the pan's non-stick coating, and it protects the pan against rust. The darker the pan: the better the seasoning layer!


It is wise to cook only meat in the pan the first few times, to improve the patina. After about 10 times, the patina is good enough to bake more delicate products like eggs.


When you cook with more acidic products like lemon, tomatoes and white wine, lighter spots can appear in the patina. When this happens it is important to season the pan again.


## Cleaning a carbon steel pan


After you use the pan you wash it with hot water to remove food residue, and dry it well. Any food left behind can be removed with a sponge. Don’t let the pan soak in water because the pan will rust.



Every once in a while, it is advised to put a layer of coarse salt in the pan and heat it for a minute and a half. The salt will remove odors and the like from the patina. Rinse the pan off and dry it with paper towels. Afterwards put a tiny bit of oil in the pan before storing.


## History of deBuyer


The French company *deBuyer* has been making high quality cookware since 1830. All products are still made in France, which means it is still original European quality. 


This deBuyer Mineral B Element pans are real craftsmanship. There may be tiny scratches on them from production or transport, but after seasoning the pan, this will be no issue!


## Pans without PFAS, PFOA and PTFE


The abbreviation PFAS stands for poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances. These are man-made substances that are not naturally occurring. Examples of PFAS are GenX, PFOA perfluoro octanoic acid and PFOS perfluorooctane sulphonates. PFAS is a generic term and is used in many products, including frying pans, grilling pans and wok pans. PFAS have useful properties: they are water and dirt repellent, among others. We now know that PFAS are harmful to your health. 


Teflon is the commercial name for several plastic fluoropolymers, such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). These plastic fluoropolymers are made using PFAS. Teflon provides a water- and dirt-resistant layer on the product that resists heat well. PTFE also allows two surfaces to slide easily over each other. This is why PTFE is found in non-stick pans, among other things.  **This pan is free of PFAS, PFOA and PTFE**. You can safely use it! Looking for another pan? Deze heb ik terug gestuurd en heb een maat groter besteld 32cm. Dit is wel mijn lievelingspan geworden, eenpansgerechten voor een gezin passen er makkelijk in. Flinke bodem waardoor je genoeg kan fruiten of aanbakken. Blij dat deze pannen ook de oven in kunnen. Zonder sop wassen went snel, de ijzer geur die er bij vrij komt vind ik wel stinken. Gelijk een hele set aangeschaft van De Buyer. Al met al heel blij mee en de prijs is echt top!
